SEC Media Days: Day 2
By Streyeder on July 23 2009 10:51 PM

Welcome back! Day one was just a primer before we get to the real meat of the interviews.
Rogers Redding -- SEC Coordinator of Officials
Rogers was fairly brief today, but he made a few points before heading out. Interestingly enough, the rugby punting will soon become slightly more fun. If the punter gets outside of the box then he's fair game to tackle and loses punter protection. There was another small change to the minimum number of men on the line of scrimmage. Instead, there can now be no more than four men in the backfield which equates to a minimum of seven men on the LOS. Apparently counting to six is out of range for SEC officials, but four is well within their abilities. Also changing is the rule-changing itself. Instead of altering rules each year, they will now make changes every other year. Oddly enough, these aren't considered major rules changes.
Mark Richt -- Georgia
Richt opened things today commenting on how his team must learn to not lean so heavily on its stars and work together to make things happen. Of course, they'll need to come together as a team to even have a prayer with the suicide schedule they have. UGA will have to conquer not only the SEC, but also Okie. St. & Ga. Tech, two teams poised to be in the top 15 in the preseason.
Nick Saban -- Alabama
Saban is putting a good bit of pressure on his offensive line to perform for newcomer QB Greg McElroy. Of course, having a group of seasoned wide receivers to dump off to won't hurt too much either. Also of note is the upcoming movie in which Saban plays himself as the LSU coach. The team apparently voted to not see the film as a way of not endorsing Saban's roots at LSU.
Houston Nutt -- Mississippi
Of course Nutt gave praise to the almighty Tebow, considering he's 1-0 against the QB at Ole Miss. Good grief. Of course, he's also buying what the media is selling and believes that not winning the West would be a disappointment to him and his team. Of course, he also chimed in on the new (BS) signing rule in the SEC. Nutt reiterated how over-signing helps the local JUCOs and keeps the pipeline into the school working well for those who do develop into better students and athletes.
Urban Meyer -- Florida
Reminiscing on another national championship season is becomign commonplace for Meyer. He recalled the SEC Championship Game calling it "arguable the finest football game" he had coached in thus far. He also touched on a bit of a Coach Bryant moment he had in his first year at UF, standing in Bryant-Denny. Apparently everyone has a CPB story of their own, even a yank. Basically Meyer's just here to tell you, in not so many words, to get ready for another date in Atlanta. What else is there to say?
